Chris Maslanka's listeners' puzzle
- Dr Frankenstein needed more power to
bring the monster to life. He sends Igor to the village to buy
batteries. He has a battery holder that takes 2 batteries at a time, no
more no less. Igor knows that for each combination of 2 batteries he can
achieve 2 voltages, the sum of the 2 batteries or the difference. ie
with a 7 volt and an 11 volt battery he could achieve 18 volts (the sum)
or 4 volts (the difference). Dr Frankenstein needs voltages from 1
upwards. Igor can only afford 4 batteries. What should he buy?
