Tenth Day’s Events

Friday September 29th, 2000

Day 1- 18th Sept ] Day 2 - 19th Sept ] Day 3 - 20th Sept ] Day 4 - 21st Sept ] Day 5 - 22nd Sept ] Day 6 - 25th Sept ] Day 7 - 26th Sept ] Day 8 - 27th Sept ] Day 9 - 28th Sept ] [ Day 10 - 29th Sept ]

  1. Find an Australian connection in each of the following two anagrams:

CAMEL JIVES

ROLLS BY BIN

  1. At one point during Camelon Mackintosh’s Wizard of Oz I saw camels (4 legs), ostriches (2 legs) and Funnel web spiders (8 legs) on stage. They were all lying on their backs, so all I could see from the stalls was all their legs waggling in the air. I knew there were just camels, ostriches and spiders, and that there were more spiders than camels and more camels than ostriches. What was the greatest number of legs if I was able to deduce unambiguously from this how many of each creature there were?
  1. A mechanical roo blows a fuse. As a result it jumps from one end of Bongo bridge to the other in four jumps of different length. Each jump is a whole number of metres and each jump length it uses would have got it across the bridge in a whole number of bounds. What’s the shortest the bridge could be?
  1. The fusebox needs rewiring by connecting red to red, blue to blue, black to black without any of the wires touching each other. Can it be done?

  1. Write your own invertible notice along the lines of:

NOW NO SWIMS ON MON

as on the Rules page.

The entries may be submitted by snail mail on a post card to Sydney Mind Olympics, Didcot Towers, 11 Wilcher Close, East Hagbourne, DIDCOT, OX11 9LU, United Kingdom, or by e-mail to:
